Removable Functional Appliances
Functional Appliances cause a change in function
resulting in a change of anatomical form. Removable functional
appliances
produce the largest skeletal changes (covering the teeth and a
portion of the supporting bone). Fixed functional appliances (attached
to
teeth) produce smaller skeletal changes. Orthodontic brackets (attached
to teeth) produce only small skeletal changes, mostly tooth changes.
Better to change skeletal relationships without surgery.
